Bergamo, located in northern Italy, is divided into two distinct areas: the historic Città Alta and the more modern Città Bassa.

The Upper Town is perched on a hill and is known for:

  • its charming medieval streets
  • Piazza Vecchia, the heart of the old town
  • The impressive Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore

In the Lower Town, you’ll find:

  • Piazza Matteotti, perfect for a coffee
  • Accademia Carrara is an excellent art museum that houses works by famous Renaissance and Baroque artists

 

To reach the Upper Town from the Lower Town or viceversa, you can take the funicular, which provides breathtaking views.

Bergamo is also famous for its local cuisine, such as casoncelli and polenta e osei.

This beautiful city offers a mix of history, art, and gastronomy surrounded by stunning scenery.
