Hairspray – The Broadway Musical, is the fun Musical set in the 1960s that focuses on the revenge of the different and racial integration. The play highlights the consciousness-raising and struggles carried out, then as now, by minorities, or those weaker parts of society, placing at the center of the story, the dreams of Tracy an overweight girl who dreams of dancing on a TV show in her city, Baltimore, AND by her mom Edna, who is also plus-size, and therefore discriminated against.
The play debuted on Broadway in 2002 and ran for 2642 performances, winning eight Tony Awards. Instead, in 2007 he made his London debut at the Shaftesbury Theatre in the West End, where he was awarded four Laurence Olivier Awards.
The Italian version will be completely different from previous productions. The direction and choreography deliberately wink at overseas versions, using dance as a storytelling tool and not just an accessory.
