ALLA SCALA THEATRE

The Scala Theatre was built according to the Austrian Empress Maria Theresia'will, as a fire on February 1776 had destroyed the Royal Theatre, where before took place the opera performances.
The name "Alla Scala", now shortened in "Scala" is due to the name of a church "Santa Maria alla Scala" existing in that same place.
The restoring works started on July 2002 as long as October 2004 and gave back to Milan a more functional theatre, where the works had given birth to the original colours and materials used by the architect Piermarini in the 18th century.
